Typical Installation

The IP-6700 is designed to transport up to 4 E-1/T-1/DTE/DS-3 signals with timing plus Ethernet traffic over the IP network. This is a cost effective way of migrating to an IP network from existing voice and data networks using existing TDM based equipment.

The IP-6700 could be used to transport multiple E1, T1, DTE, DS3, and 10/100BaseT Ethernet traffic through 10/100BaseT Ethernet. The number of E-1/T-1/DTE/DS-3 interfaces can be factory optioned from 1 to 4 (2 DTEs / 1 DS3 Max.). The IP-6700P has built-in AC or DC power, console port, Ethernet port, and SNMP port with remote in-band management.

Transport T1 through IP, T-1 over LAN, T-1 via TCP/IP, T1 through LAN, T-1 via IP or T-1 via TCP/IP or T-1 over Internet links.

The IP-6700 features adjustable jitter buffers to accommodate packet delays. T1/E1 traffic can be bundled into larger packets to increase bandwidth efficiency and reduce the number of packets sent. A single DS-0 uses 256 Kbps full duplex bandwidth, a full T1 of 24 DS-0s uses as little as 3.2 Mbps full duplex bandwidth.

The IP-6700 can be used point-to-point to transport a fractional T1/E1, up to as many as 4 T1/E1s. DS3 traffic is point-to-point With T1/E1 traffic, DS-0s can be bundled to be sent to multiple end points. This allows the T1/E1 traffic to be sent from one IP-6700 point to many IP-6700 end points.

Transmission Protocol

The IP-6700 uses UDP packets to transmit the T1/E1/DS-3 information. The UDP packets are formed of AAL1 cells of 48 bytes per cell. AAL1 is the ATM Adaption Layer.
