DESCRIPTION

The DCB SR Voice Multiplexer supports 1, 2, or 4 voice channels over sync or async links. In addition, the SR-VM is also available with 8 async data ports. The SR-VM will operate over DDS links, dial-up or private line modem links, ISDN, wireless modems, etc. The SR-VM can operate point to point over IP networks using the DCB Etherpath serial server. The SR-VM gives you toll quality voice using voice compression and digital echo cancellation. The fax function gives the user Group 3 fax transmission at 2.4 to 9.6 Kbps over the voice channel. The voice I/O cards have three RJ connectors per voice port for FXS, FXO, and E&M (Ear and Mouth) interfaces. The E&M interfaces are 4-wire E&M. The FXS interface connects to stations, which can be phones and key phone systems. The FXO interface connects to phone switches, such as phone company central office switches and PBX ports. The SR-VM supports off premise extension applications (FXO to FXS), Private Line Automatic Ringdown (FXS to FXS) and tie lines (E&M to E&M).

The data port option gives the user 8 statistically multiplexed async ports at speeds up to 38.4 Kbps each. The async ports have full flow control capabilities, supporting Clear to Send, Busy and Xon/Xoff. Each port can be set to a different speed. Data ports can be set to different speeds at each end of the link.

The SR-VM is easy to setup using the asynchronous network management port. Every SR-VM is shipped with adapters for connecting the network management port to either a PC (9 pin adapter) or to a terminal (25 pin adapter). Setup commands are simple and easy to understand. Help is always available by entering "h", "help" or "?". Setup is usually as simple as plugging in a telephone. If a particular system requires different phone audio levels, the SR-VM provides the option of changing the voice in and voice out levels.

The SR-VM may also bridge remote Ethernet LANs by adding an EtherSeries Bridge to one of the serial ports. Click here to go to the EtherSeries Bridge data sheet. The bridged connection speed is limited to 38.4 Kbps or less, depending upon other bandwidth utilization.

NOTE: Although the SR-VM will pass touch-tones and group 3 fax tones, it will not pass modem tones due to the voice-oriented compression methods.. Dial-up telephone line modems can not be used with this system between the modem and the telephone line. See this paper for details.
