The NEBS Certified Loop-V 4200 is a series of versatile integrated access devices (IAD) that combine the functions of digital access cross-connect (DACS) and high-speed multiplex. Versatility comes from the variety of low-speed and high-speed plug-in modules available with which the user can interface with numerous signal formats. Loop-V 4200 9 Port Loop-V 4200 28 Port

Using just the low-speed plug-ins, the functions of time-slot interchange (digital cross-connect) and of format conversion are available. Interfaces and conversion to E1 and T1 lines, data, voice, HDSL, ISDN, router, ATM, and Frame Relay are available. Used with high-speed plug-ins, multiplexing and access functions to OC3, STM-1, DS3, and E3 becomes possible.

The low end product of this family is the Loop-V 4200-9. Having 9 low-speed plug-ins ports, this unit, occupying a rack space of only 1 U, can serve as a small DACS and also as a format converter.

The high end product is the Loop-V 4200-28. This has 3 high-speed ports as well as 28 low-speed ports. In addition to the DACS and format conversion function, signals from all the low-speed ports can be multiplexed to the high-speed ports, resulting in a fractional high-speed access. Three such units can be daisy chained to form a full high-speed multiplex for OC3/STM-1 for example.
